Fantasy football: Hardly anyone has picked this potential must-have bargain

Nothing makes a fantasy football manager smile like a good bargain.

A player who mixes it with the top point-scorers who is valued at half the price is a must-have for Dream Team 2018/19.

After all the pre-season uncertainty, Premier League managers finally showed their cards at the weekend and with three transfers to use before the start of September, now is the time to react.

Maurizio Sarri kick-started his Premier League career with a 3-0 win away to Huddersfield.

Jorginho and N’Golo Kante helped themselves to rare appearances on the scoresheet before Pedro completed the rout with ten minutes remaining.

The former Barcelona winger also claimed 5 Star Man points, taking his tally after Game Week 1 to 13.

Just 1.7% of Dream Team managers took a punt on Pedro at £2.5m.

Perhaps it’s time more took the risk?

Sarri will be hoping to replicate the productive frontline he constructed at Napoli.

Jose Callejon, Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens made life hell for Serie A defenders last season under the Italian gaffer’s guidance.

Pedro fits the profile needed for Sarri’s preferred front three — diminutive, quick, comfortable in possession.

With Alvaro Morata desperately struggling for form and Olivier Giroud a tad immobile for Sarri’s liking, there’s every chance we could see Pedro keep his place in the starting line-up when Eden Hazard regains match fitness.

Willian, Hazard, Pedro screams fluidity and would be capable of the rapid counterattacks Napoli used so effectively last season.

It may even be the case that Pedro finds himself ahead of Willian in the pecking order, such was his form in pre-season.

This option comes with risk — it’s not inconceivable that Pedro will take up a benchwarmer role in due course.

But given that we have him categorised as a midfielder, it’s certainly an option worth considering.

He is a three-time Champions League winner after all…
