Manchester United suffered yet another setback post the international break, as they dropped two points thanks to a boring 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils’ performance was mediocre at best, with Crystal Palace cleary the better side on the night, and more deserving of taking all 3 points from the encounter.

The home side was literally booed off the pitch after the full-time whistle, as supporters had to endure an uneventful game that was quite capable of putting the Theatre of Dreams off to sleep.

Only one Manchester United player managed to put in a decent shift on the night, and he was rightly praised by fans and the manager alike after the game.

Victor Lindelof, who has developed into his side’s first-choice centre-back this season, did his job quite well against the Eagles, by defending expertly and helping David De Gea maintain a clean sheet.

In fact, in the final minutes of the game, the Swede even picked up a muscle injury. But despite his evident struggles, Lindelof powered on, playing through his issue until full-time.

Jose Mourinho was quick to show his appreciation for the 24-year-old’s commitment, as he went onto the pitch and hugged Lindelof after referee sounded the final whistle.

During his post-match interview, the Portuguese also confirmed that the defender had picked up an injury, as he revealed: “Lindelof injured? I believe so.

“I always say that this is the period of the injuries, that when they are not injured in the national teams, they come to the clubs and they are injured. He played in the national team against Russia last week.”

Ivorian soccer great Didier Drogba is calling it a career.

Drogba confirmed on the BBC World Service’s Sportshour program that he is hanging up his cleats for good.

“After 20 years, I have decided to put an end to my playing career,” Drogba said on the show.

The 40-year-old began his professional career with French club Le Mans, but he’s best known for his time in the Premier League with Chelsea.

Over two stints with the English giant, Drogba scored 164 goals across 381 appearances for the Blues, helping them capture four Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League crown during his time spent with them.

In addition to his accomplishments with Chelsea, Drogba also enjoyed an excellent international career with his native Ivory Coast that saw him finish his career as the African nation’s all-time leading goal-scorer with 65 markers in 105 caps.

The twilight of Drogba’s career was played out in North America when he played a couple seasons for the Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer and then the last two years of his career for the United Soccer League’s Phoenix Rising, a team he also co-owns.

Who said the international break was boring?

After beating Spain 3-2, Croatia face England at Wembley today in an all or nothing game.

Gareth Southgate has rung the changes from Thursday, most noticeably handing in-form Ross Barkley a start in midfield.

For *possibly* the first time ever both teams can either reach a semi-final or be relegated at Wembley today.

A win for England or Croatia and they will progress to the Nations League semis while a draw would see Spain progress.

After that fateful game in the summer, seeing Croatia being drawn in England’s group has seen them become international rivals once again.

The first game between these two was a dull 0-0 draw played out in front of an empty stadium in Rijeka but Wembley will be packed today.

And after humbling the USA 3-0 in an efficient if not spectacular display on Thursday, Southgate has lined up a full strength side for the Croats.

Ivan Rakitic, who caused Jordan Henderson and Eric Dier so much trouble in midfield in Russia, misses a rare game with a hamstring injury.

Mario Mandzukic has retired from international football but Ivan Perisic, who scored Croatia’s first goal in the semi-final, will be the man England have to contain down the left.

Is it time for Memphis Depay to give the Premier League another crack?

Memphis Depay certainly enjoyed himself last week.

The Dutchman was simply sensational in Lyon’s 4-2 win over Guingamp, scoring two of their goals and setting up the other two.

Now wonder he spent the following morning ‘feeling like Beckham’.

But while we’re sure a few Man United fans were pleased to seeseemingly  their former flame bigging up the Reds on derby day, more will be somewhat frustrated that he’s found his feet in France, having struggled so severely during his brief spell at Old Trafford.

In fact, Depay is easily one of the best players in Ligue 1 at the moment, having been involved in more goals than any other player in the league so far this year.

And while many of you will be scoffing at the thought of a decent player making it ‘in the farmer’s league’, you have to remember that he’s being sized up against the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Dimitri Payet, Falcao and Mario Balotelli, among others.

So having become such a resounding success in France, is it time he gave the Premier League another crack?

AFP or licensors Ligue 1 has become Depay’s playground[/caption]

Since joining Lyon in January 2017, Depay really has turned a corner.

Showcasing his form and fitness, the 24-year-old – yes, that’s right, he’s still only 24 – has helped the club become Ligue 1’s best-of-the-rest after PSG, as well as one of the surprise packages in the Champions League.

Speaking ahead of their shock win over Man City in the competition back in September, Depay spoke about his attitude during his time at United – answering jibes made by former captain Wayne Rooney on his behaviour during their time as teammates.

He said: “It’s in the past and I’m a flamboyant guy and like nice stuff but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t be more smart. I’ve become more mature.”

Memphis Depay that is just outrageous! 😱

    Unsaveable! pic.twitter.com/nToyIIywTJ

    — Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) November 10, 2018

But is it just a change in attitude, or is he simply flourishing in an environment where there’s less pressure?

After all, Depay joined United from PSV in 2015 with the world at his feet.

Named the “Best Young Player” in the world that year by France Football, big things were expected from him at Old Trafford.

Especially when he was handed the club’s famous No 7 shirt – which was previously worn by club legends George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But after netting just seven goals in 53 appearances, the Dutchman was branded as just another expensive flop.

It was clear that he needed to get out of the nuclear reactor.

CarlRecine His time at Old Trafford was nightmarish[/caption]

Perhaps it was all a case of too much, too soon.

That’s the view of former Netherlands Under-21 manager Cor Pot, who believes the move to United happened at the wrong time.

Speaking to voetbalprimeur in a recent interview, he said: “You already saw that it was a very great talent, maybe he went to United a bit too early, and that was all too fast, he was just a basic player in Eindhoven, Lyon was a good step for Memphis. It’s fantastic now.”

“He keeps on developing himself – not only as a player, but also as a person – Memphis gets a bit calmer, does not do any crazy things anymore, but at the time he was a bit shy, of course you had that fuss with that hat extravagant behavior. That seems a bit over now, I think he’s doing fine.”

Reuters Could a return to the Premier League be on the cards?[/caption]

On current form, it’s even been suggested that it’s time he looked to move to a bigger club.

And having featured predominantly in the centre of Lyon’s attack this season – as a support-striker or even in the more traditional No.9 role – United would certainly be interested in having him back in their line-up.

Of course, there’s rumours that United agreed a buy-back option on Depay when they sold him to Lyon in January 2017.

But while buy-back options seemingly aren’t available in Ligue 1, it’s presumed that United will be at the front of the queue – or will at least have a first-refusal arrangement in place – if they fancy giving him another crack at the Premier League.

    Dream Team FC
    Remembering Fulham’s 2019/20 Premier League title-winning campaign

2020 was the year bookmakers went out of business.

The beginning of the end can all be traced back to 14 November 2018, when Claudio Ranieri took the reigns at struggling Fulham.

Bookmakers cashed in on 5000/1 odds of Fulham winning the 2019/20 Premier League title, safe in the knowledge that Ranieri couldn’t possibly do it again.

    Buongiorno!#WelcomeClaudio pic.twitter.com/NFlSvXObl9

    — Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) November 15, 2018

Well, dear friends, we all know what happened next.

In the space of 18 months, Ranieri took Fulham from the bottom of the Premier League to the top of Mount Everest.

Obviously you haven’t forgotten Leicester MKII but, just in case the lack of fresh fruit and vegetables available post-Brexit has spun you out, allow us to jog your memory.

    😃🤝#WelcomeClaudio pic.twitter.com/TiXw3OgcoK

    — Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) November 15, 2018

Ranieri’s immediate task was to halt the sinking ship.

There was only one man to call, and he just so happened to be out of a job.

On 19 November 2018, four days after getting the job, Ranieri announced Robert Huth as his first signing.

    The big man in action

The Italian settled on a 4-4-2 formation, with Tom Cairney playing the role of Riyad Mahrez and Aboubakar Kamara in the role of Jamie Vardy.

To the fool who said lightening doesn’t strike twice, show them 11 goals in 19 Premier League appearances from AK47 to save Fulham from relegation.

With safety confirmed, Ranieri set about adding to his squad in the summer transfer window.

Dilly ding dilly do you know anyone cheap for sale?

Christian Fuchs was signed on a free transfer to solve Fulham’s left-back problem, just as he had been four years earlier.

In desperate need of a runner in midfield- a clone of N’Golo Kante- Fulham cast their net far and wide.

But, after multiple rejections, Ranieri had to make do with what he had. Jean Michael Seri would have to do, despite his completely different attributes.

    He’s no KanteGetty - Contributor

Fulham rumbled on. Ryan Sessegnon did his best Nathan Dyer impression, while Andre Schurrle was the picture of Mark Albrighton-esque consistency down Fulham’s right side.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scrapped and fought up top, with AK47 feeding off the scraps and Cairney providing the magic.

The louder the doubts grew, the harder Fulham dug in. It wasn’t necessarily pretty, but it was effective.

    Cold and flu sznEPA

With the title in touching distance, the squad gathered round Kevin McDonald’s house.

Man City, whose team was now a 1-11 of Silvas, slipped up and a Tony Pulis masterclass secured Southampton a gritty 1-0 win.

The title was secured. Unfortunately Alfie Mawson’s jaw was broken amidst the celebrations, with the club quick to deny rumours about a Mitrovic roundhouse kick.

    ‘CAN I GET YOUR AUTOGRAPH?’Reuters

Ranieri got on the phone to Andrea Bocelli, but he missed his call. Not a problem, as Fulham had a ready-made backup in place.

On the final day of the 2019/20 season, a packed Craven Cottage rocked out to the finest Michael Jackson impersonator in all the land.

Manchester United suffered a humbling 3-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in Sunday’s Manchester Derby, which brought to an end their recent run of victories.

The Red Devils did perform well at the Etihad, but eventually, were simply outclassed by the superior football played by Pep Guardiola’s men.

Jose Mourinho’s squad was also hampered with big injuries, as Paul Pogba missed the game entirely due to the knock he picked up against Juventus, whereas Romelu Lukaku wasn’t fit enough to start, and had to be introduced as a second-half substitute.

The Portuguese tactician was quite supportive of his team despite being on the losing side, as he admitted that he was ‘sad, but not too disappointed’ in his post-match press conference.

However, Mourinho also made some surprising comments regarding Marouane Fellaini, who had to start the game despite not being fully fit due to the injury picked up by Paul Pogba.

“He [Fellaini] was not ready to play for 90 minutes,” Mourinho revealed (via The Independent), before going on to add: “I can imagine when it was 2-1 to bring a fresh Fellaini, I think they would be in big, big trouble.”

This statement from the Manchester United boss wasn’t received well by both sets of supporters, and here’s how the fans reacted on Twitter:

Player Ratings: Juventus 1-2 Manchester United

    REUTERS/Stefano Rellandini

Manchester United stunned Juventus with two goals in the final five minutes to beat the Serie A champions in a Group H encounter of the UEFA Champions League in Turin.

Spaniard Juan Mata curled in a free-kick with five minutes to go, before Ashley Young’s set-piece was bundled into his own net by Juventus defender Alex Sandro. Earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo had put the hosts ahead with an outstanding volley in the 65th minute.

Ronaldo watched Leonardo Bonucci’s long pass over his shoulder before lashing it past United goalkeeper David De Gea for his first goal in the competition since moving to the side.

Here are the player ratings as Jose Mourinho’s men stayed supreme on the night.

    David de Gea – 8

Made some class stops from Juan Cuadrado and Miralem Pjanic. The Spaniard’s distribution was occasionally handy as United caused some issues.

    Ashley Young – 8

Another positive game for Young and he remained disciplined defensively. Stayed at par to stop Ronaldo, who moved away from Young’s side and he assisted the winner.

    Chris Smalling – 7

A rare night of solidity for Smalling. Showed some real composure and strengths.

    Victor Lindelof – 6

Did well for just over an hour but was troubled from there on. The Swede was caught on his heels by Cristiano Ronaldo and punished.

    Luke Shaw – 5

For the 2nd game in a row, Shaw wasn’t up to the mark. He did not support Martial enough and showed Cuadrado respect at times.

    Nemanja Matic – 6

A much-needed composed display for the Serb and this performance will give him confidence after weeks of poor displays.

    Ander Herrera – 8

Was the best midfielder and kept the game flowing. Was terrific to keep the movement on from defence and attack. Brought welcome energy to the midfield.

    Paul Pogba – 4

Was a poor display from the Frenchman, who was expected to shine on his return to Turin. Often gave away the possession.

    SUBSTITUTES:

    Marcus Rasord – 6

Gave the side some energy and ran around tirelessly.

    Juan Mata – 8

Manchester United‘s woes this season haven’t just been limited to being on the pitch, as things stand. As much as the club has struggled on the field, it is their issues off the field that have given the Red Devils an extra headache.

The Mancunian giants were fined after they reached the stadium late during a Champions League match against Valencia at Old Trafford recently, and faced similar problems before the home game against Juventus.

Both times, traffic played foul and stopped the team from making it to the stadium on time. In fact, manager Jose Mourinho was forced to walk a stretch of the distance to Old Trafford before the Juventus clash.

As much as fans must have enjoyed that, it’s slowly becoming a logistical nightmare for the United match organizers, and they cannot afford any such delays anymore.

What Leroy Sane Had To Say About A Potential Move To Manchester United

A solution to this issue has come in the form of a couple of friendly faces. The Sun are reporting that former United duo Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs co-own a hotel that is just opposite the Theatre of Dreams. This hotel is widely popular in Manchester, and is thoughtfully named “Hotel Football.”

Such have been the troubles for United in their attempts to reach their own stadium in time, that club officials have raised the matter forward, and are now considering requesting Neville and Giggs, two Manchester United legends, to allow the team to use the hotel on Champions League match-days.
