Fabinho has confirmed that he never received an official offer from Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho had made a central midfielder his top priority last summer, as the Portuguese boss wanted to find a suitable player who would allow Paul Pogba play a much freer role in the middle of the park.

Multiple sources revealed that Manchester United had made offers for Monaco’s Fabinho, but the supposed interest seemingly cooled down in subsequent weeks.

The Red Devils then turned to their rivals Chelsea and swooped in for Nemanja Matic. On the other hand, Fabinho remained in France for another season before leaving for Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool have improved their midfield significantly this summer. Naby Keita completed his move from RB Leipzig after agreeing to terms before the start of last season. The Reds were also the first team from the Big 6 to make a signing this summer, as they completed a move for Fabinho.

His performances helped his side win their first Ligue 1 title after a gap of 17 years, and they also made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Fabinho has made 233 appearances for Monaco, scoring 31 goals.

In the interview, Fabinho also spoke about his reason to leave Monaco, by adding: “I was sad to leave Monaco, a club that gave me a lot of great moments, but in football sometimes you need new challenges and I thought it was time to move on.”
