What Happened Between Pogba And Maitland-Niles After Full-Time

    Reuters/Carl Recine

Wenger’s last trip to Old Trafford saw the Gunners suffer a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Man Utd. Late drama ensured as a lucky header from Fellaini saw the three points go United’s way in added time.

This was a decisive additive to Pogba’s opener which was dulled only by Mkhitaryan scoring against his former club in the second half.

All in all, a decent showing was put on by both sides and Arsenal in particular put in a far better performance than would have been expected of a weakened side that was deprived of the likes of Ozil, Lacazette, and Ramsey amongst others.

Youngsters Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Mavropanos were given surprising starts as a result of the resting, and one of them impressed Paul Pogba quite a bit.

    RELATED NEWS:

What Sanchez Did When He Saw Wenger And His Arsenal Teammates

After the full-time whistle, Pogba was seen hugging the 20-year-old and whispering what can only be appreciation and advice into the ears of the youngster.

The England U-21 international was a brilliant presence in the game and was often an apt midfielder when compared to the seasoned opposition of Pogba, Matic, and Herrera.

Such recognition is a classy gesture from Pogba, who himself has faced criticism and still fresh off his own youth days would know better than anyone else that a fair word can go a long way in building the confidence of a starlet.

    Watch Reactions:

Fans too took good notice of his antics and were positive about the performance given, many hailing him as something big just brewing and waiting for a big break.

In fact, Pogba’s act of appreciation was caught quite well by these supporters and was given tremendous acknowledgment.

Now they will be hoping that most of that advice will be acted upon by the youngster and that he will live up to the plethora of expectations heaped upon him over this campaign.

Salah furious over image rights dispute with Egyptian FA

CAIRO — Premier League leading scorer Mohamed Salah said Sunday he is insulted over the unauthorized use of his image and blames the Egyptian Football Association in a dispute that comes less than two months before the World Cup in Russia.

The Egyptian soccer star is furious his image features prominently on the outside of the national team’s plane, which was provided by official sponsor WE.

Liverpool’s winger, a huge celebrity in his native Egypt, has a sponsorship deal with rival telecommunications firm Vodafone.

"Sorry but this is a major insult … I was hoping the deal would be classier than this," Salah tweeted Sunday.

Officials at Egypt’s soccer association did not respond to repeated phone calls seeking comment.

However, Egypt’s Youth and Sports Minister Khaled Abd Elaziz said he is communicating with all of the concerned parties to solve the dispute.

"Especially since Egypt is going to participate in the 2018 World Cup," Elaziz tweeted hours after Salah’s. "Mohamed Salah is an idol for Egyptian youth, loving and loyal to his homeland and represents his country in Europe in the best way."

Ramy Abbas, Salah’s agent, said he has been waiting for a response from Egyptian officials.

"We have not even been contacted for a resolution! Nothing! Complete silence!" he said in his own tweet on Saturday.

Abbas argued that EFA and its sponsor, advertising agency Presentation, had no right to use Salah’s image without written consent from MS Commercial, Cayman, the firm that owns Salah’s image rights.

Salah’s tweet went viral on social media and Egyptian fans launched a twitter hashtag, Support–Mohamed–Salah to show solidarity with their beloved player.

Egypt opens World Cup competition in June. The country qualified for the tournament for the first time in 28 years and its chances in Group A against host Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay rest largely on the 25-year-old Salah’s shoulders.

  • What are the odds on Arsene Wenger being next PSG manager?

    Dream Team FC
What are the odds on Arsene Wenger being next PSG manager?

Sometimes it feels like things are written in the stars.

The football world was rocked by the news that Arsene Wenger was leaving Arsenal a week ago.

Unai Emery announced he would be leaving PSG at the end of the season to somewhat less fanfare.

CLAIM YOUR FREE £20 BET Sun Bets have this brilliant offer when you sign up and bet a fiver This picture pretty much sums up the end of Arsene’s Arsenal careerREUTERS

But now the stars of world football could have aligned in such a way that Wenger is going to walk into the only possible job he could take after more than 20 years at Arsenal.

With both managers leaving their posts in the summer it would be no surprise to see Wenger take the hot seat in Paris for one final flourish.

After having to deal with the likes of Marouane Chamakh and Yaya Sanogo during his time at the Emirates no-one would begrudge him a season with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, would they?

ARSENE WENGER SPECIALThe Arsenal manager is 4/1 to be the next PSG manager Encapsulating the Arsenal banter periodAction Images - Reuters

It would be the perfect next step for Wenger to move back to France and get to work with some real young talent, win a couple of trophies and have a real crack at finally lifting the elusive Champions League trophy.

It would be a chance for Wenger to show his methods are still capable of winning titles and if it brought the Champions League to Paris then the Qatari owners would be forever in his debt.

Wenger could then bow out of football with his head held high and party of his credibility restored.

    The perfect job right?

Well, Sun Bets have priced Wenger becoming the next PSG manager at 4/1.

Emery might feel he was never given a chance at PSGGetty - Contributor

However, it might not work our if the Frenchman does move back to the number one club in his home country.

You can imagine a scenario where Neymar begins to lose respect for his manager early in the season and leads a mutiny with Mbappe against Wenger’s methods leading to uproar in the dressing room.

Fragile from a poor end to his career at Arsenal losing to Atletico in the Europa League and failing to qualify for the Champions League, Wenger cannot control the players and the season falls into tragedy before it has even started.

It would be entertaining either way.

Arsenal’s defence completely disappeared for Antoine Griezmann’s equaliser

    Well, that was pretty shocking.

Arsenal completely dominated this Europa League semi-final clash against Atletico, enjoying shot after shot as well as the lion’s share of the possession.

Still, despite going down to ten-men after just ten minutes, Atletico were strong at the back and soaked up much of the pressure.

Jan Oblak was pretty decent between the sticks, too.

But the Gunners finally found a way through thanks to Alexandre Lacazette, as the Frenchman nodded home the well-deserved opener on the hour-mark.

They were knocking on the door for a second for most of the second-half too, with chance after chance and cross after cross.

But they couldn’t find a way through.

And then, out of nowhere, Arsenal’s back-line went to sleep and Atletico grabbed an equaliser completely against the run of play.

    "Absolutely criminal."

Arsenal dominate for 81 minutes, and then… Antoine Griezmann comes up with a huge away goal for Atleti.

    — Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) April 26, 2018

Seriously, what on earth were they doing at the back?

Antoine Griezmann doesn’t need to be asked twice when handed an opportunity like that, but you’ve gotta question why seasoned internationals like Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi were caught out so easily.

    PA:Press Association “No wonder I’m f**king leaving*[/caption]

Arsenal now know it’ll be incredibly hard to go to Madrid and get a result.

They really needed to take a first-leg lead with them to the Spanish capital.

  • REVEALED: Sir Alex Wanted To Sign These THREE Players Before Retirement

    BlameFootball
REVEALED: Sir Alex Wanted To Sign These THREE Players Before Retirement

    Reuters / Jason Cairnduff

Man Utd’s penchant for buying big and becoming a giant in the transfer market certainly started only after Sir Alex Ferguson departed as manager.

Starting with Mata and all the way now to Alexis Sanchez, the club has splashed big over the years, altering the philosophy of nurturing and giving chances to home-grown talents or those that were bought for cheap or free that the legendary gaffer almost perfected at Old Trafford.

Or did he? Turns out he too might have caught wind of the needs of the time and apparently had big names on his mind prior to departing.

Speaking to M.E.N Sport, a former first-team coach under Ferguson, Rene Meulensteen made a startling revelation. Having already welcomed the Shinji Kagawa, who was a stellar player in the Bundesliga, it would seem that Ferguson wanted to dip just a little more into the German market.

“We looked at a few German players like Hummels, who went to Bayern Munich.”

WATCH: Top 10 Man Utd Summer Transfer Targets

The defender wasn’t the end of their transfer plans, as Meulensteen continues: “I think we looked at Gundogan and Reus, too. There was a number of players but we never got that specific to really target them.”

However, none of that was to be as Ferguson finally retired at that point.

    RELATED:

How Sir Alex Ferguson Played A Role In Roma’s Comeback Against Barcelona

Turns out even that was unexpected: “The fact that he was going to retire or finish came to me and a lot of others as a complete bombshell. He was as sharp as ever. He was always an early bird, always arriving early at Carrington. I didn’t read anything in him where it suggested it would be his last season.”

Under Moyes, LVG and now Mourinho, United’s transfer plans are more along the lines of what has been hinted above.

Going into the next season and welcoming yet another transfer window, Mourinho has made it clear that one of the most clear-cut ways for the club to trump cross-city rivals Man City was by trying to outspend them.

    Dream Team FC
Will we see Man City goalkeeper Ederson score a goal before the end of the season?

Now that Man City have won the Premier League title, it’s all about breaking as many records as possible and having a bit of fun, isn’t it?

Pep Guardiola’s boys secured the league crown last weekend thanks to United’s surprise defeat to bottom-of-the-table West Brom.

But to be fair, it’s been pretty much on the cards since December.

Records are set to be broken…#MondayMotivaton pic.twitter.com/s7LKKXlbC2

CLAIM YOUR FREE £20 BET Sun Bets have this brilliant offer when you sign up and bet a fiver

But we’re not expecting City to take their foot off the gas, with Guardiola looking to break as many Premier League records as possible in their remaining games – including total points scored in a season, total wins in a season and the biggest points margin over the team in second-place (sorry, United fans), among others.

The handsome Catalan confirmed this at the weekend after their 5-0 win over Swansea, when he said: “Looking for records helps to keep the players focused.

“The league is won, now it’s the records. The numbers keep the players focused.”

But what about doing something a little bit more quirky, like giving Ederson a go at scoring from the penalty spot?

The Brazilian goalkeeper – who was signed from Benfica last summer to remedy City’s problems between the sticks – has been outstanding all season.

But he’s mostly caught the eye with his excellent ability on the ball, as he boasts a particularly powerful goal-kick and looks calm and collected with the ball at his feet.

Something Guardiola appreciates in a goalie.

Getty Images - Getty Feel the love[/caption]

But will he get himself on the scoresheet before the season’s end?

It’s something that’s genuinely on his mind.

Speaking to ESPN after their win on Sunday, he said: “I heard them [the City fans] chanting my name, asking me to take the penalty, but Gabriel went there.

“Unfortunately he missed it and Bernardo, fortunately, scored, but if the manager had asked me to go there, I would have definitely scored.

PLAY DREAM TEAM WEEKENDER Pick seven players to win £5k!

“I’m not sure if I would be able to do set-pieces, but I’m good at penalties, either using power or technique when I’m shooting.

“City have their regular penalty takers and we have good options, but if Pep asks me to take it, I’m there. “Hopefully it will happen, I’d like to score.”

REUTERS Give him a chance, Pep![/caption]

City’s next game is away to West Ham on Sunday, followed by Huddersfield and Brighton (both at the Etihad) before their campaign ends at Southampton.

So their final four games are all up against sides that have shipped plenty of goals this season, but will Ederson be given a chance from the spot if the referee gives City a penalty?

We’d certainly love to see it happen and according to the traders at Sun Bets, you can get odds of 33/1 on Ederson to score a goal before the end of the season.

it’s something about moving to Chelsea that makes star strikers less effective than a chocolate teapot.

Morata has faced criticism all season for a lack of goals and an inability to really affect games the way a £70million striker should.

And what he’s just done against Burnley will not help to quiet any of those voices.

Having already missed a chance earlier in the game Morata was put clean through on the break by N’Golo Kante.

The midfielder slid the perfect ball over the halfway line to leave Morata bearing down on goal with only the keeper to beat.

    Except that’s not what happened.

Morata did attempt to roll it into the bottom corner except to the crowds amazement, he put it wide of the post.

Man Utd seized the victory against Bournemouth last night, and one of the Mancunians to have impressed Jose Mourinho was Paul Pogba.

The 2-0 triumph comprised of goals from Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian came off from the bench in the latter half to net a goal with the cooperation of Pogba, who provided a decent assist.

Be that as it may, the striker has revealed what the ex-Chelsea boss told the Frenchman at half-time. The former Everton man told BT Sport: “Of course, we knew we had space going forward. At half-time, he told Paul to keep making those runs.

“He did, it was a perfect pass and the finish was great. It was really important we won today. Now we are well prepared and we have to prepare ourselves for the weekend as well.”

WATCH: What Happened Between Pogba And Mourinho After He Was Substituted

Furthermore, with the squad doing well, the Portuguese tactician conceded he was happy, and was full of praise for his team.

After the match, Mourinho said: “The players were good. It was a good professional performance with good effort and responsibility. There was desire to score and a desire to cope with the defensive responsibilities against a fast team.

“All of them were professional and responsible. The first ambition was to finish in the top four and now one point is probably enough. When we have that resolved we can think about third and second place.

“Everything was faster, it was simple. The players were in the right positions and not trying one more flick, one more trick. Everything was good, I am happy.

“Every player on the pitch was positive and put himself available for Saturday. I’m not very good on man of the match, I’m not a big fan of it, but Paul Pogba played very well. Against Man City he was phenomenal but today he was very, very good. A good choice.”

According to reports from the notorious Spanish news outlet Diario Gol, Ronaldo is keen on a return to Old Trafford in the summer, and is willing to bring an end to his nine-year association with Los Blancos to do so.

  • Everyone’s talking about Leroy Sane’s disallowed goal against Liverpool and rightly so

Everyone’s talking about Leroy Sane’s disallowed goal against Liverpool and rightly so

    Take a breath.

Because Liverpool are through to the last four of the Champions League, having overcome Premier League rivals Man City in the quarter-final.

Pep Guardiola’s side scored after two minutes to give themselves hope, but failed to put away anymore of their numerous chances – allowing Liverpool to eventually get back into the game and score twice in the second-half.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man 👋

Mohamed Salah's composure is on another level! 👏

In the end, the result is probably fair but everyone involved with City will feel rather aggrieved by a certain refereeing decision in the dying moments of the first-half – when Leroy Sane had a goal bizarrely disallowed for offside.

    AP:Associated Press

On the 42nd minute, Liverpool’s Loris Karius punched clear Kevin de Bruye’s floated pass into the box, which fell to the unsuspecting feet of James Milner and bounced back towards the goal.

Sane was then on hand to tuck the ball into the net, but the referee blew his whistle and disallowed the goal, ruling that Sane was in an offside position at the time.

Fair enough, you say? Except that’s not exactly what happened, with the ball very clearly coming off of Milner – who’s not a City player (anymore) – so the goal definitely should have counted.

Karius comes off his line to punch the ball clear The ball pings to Milner And bounces clear towards the goal Sane gets into position And pokes the ball home

So on second inspection, it looks like a huge mistake by the referee and it’s probably what everyone will be talking about tomorrow morning.

We’re pleased to say that we’re not alone, with this lot having plenty to say about the moment on Twitter.

City have been superb. Looks a huge mistake giving Sane offside.

Don’t know how Sane can be offside when it’s clearly come off Harry Kane

How can Sane be offside when he

    A) wasn’t
    And

    B) it came off Milner ?

Sane goal wrongly ruled out for offside – the ball came off Milner #MCFC #LFC

Can't personally see why that Sane goal didn't stand, normally you look for intentional action in the case of a defender touching the ball, but in this case the ball was deflected forwards towards Milner's knee so Sane I think should be onside
