Fantasy Football tips: The Tottenham players you need to transfer into your team

This season is set to be one of the most important in Spurs’ history and could also prove to be a crucial one for fantasy football.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will christen their new state-of-the-art stadium this season and optimism around the North London club has reached fever-pitch.

The high however has been somewhat dampened by the fact that no new signings have been made so far this summer.

Pochettino has a squad jam-packed full of talent at his disposal, which includes several popular picks for Dream Team managers.

    Harry Kane – £8m
Netted 30 league goals last season and totted up 376 points.

    Keiran Trippier – £4m
In-form defender picked up 18 ‘7+ ratings’ last term.

    1 Jan Vertonghen – £4.5m

Getty - Contributor The Belgium was a colossus at the back last season[/caption]

Vertonghen was forced to step up for Spurs last season in the long-term absence of Toby Alderweireld.

With his countryman out through injury for most of the season, the 31-year-old relished in his new role as the leader of the Spurs defence.

Vertonghen picked up a hefty 174 points in fantasy football last season, making him one of the highest scoring defenders in the game.

We are backing the Belgium to have another emphatic campaign for Spurs as he is tasked with marshalling the defence once again.

Vertonghen will set you back £4.5m in this year’s game – a relative steal considering what he will bring to your squad.

    2 Kieran Trippier – £4m

Getty - Contributor The World Cup star is in fine form after his performances in Russia[/caption]

Trippier’s emergence as one of the most effective wing-backs in Europe came somewhat out of the blue.

The former Man City academy player had initially played second-fiddle to Kyle Walker and had to wait patiently for regular opportunities at Spurs.

The 27-year-old was finally given a regular run in the team after Walker’s departure and he left such an impression that his former teammates’ presence has barely been missed.

Trippier picked up an impressive 129 points in fantasy football last season and we are backing him to improve on that tally in this year’s game.

The World Cup star will be buoyed after his performances in Russia and will set managers back a cool £4m in fantasy football. Go for it!

3 Christian Eriksen – £6m The Dane has become one of the best playmakers in Europe

Eriksen just seems to get better and better every season. Just like a fine wine.

The Danish wizard is an ever-present for both club and country and never fails to deliver at the biggest moments.

The 26-year-old was one of Spurs’ most important players last season, scoring 15 and assisting 12 as he picked up a mammoth 220 points in fantasy football.

Eriksen is the sort of character who would thrive under the expectations that will be placed on Spurs as they begin life at their new stadium.

The Dane will set you back £6m in this year’s game, a big investment but one that will almost certainly prove to be worthwhile over the course of the season.

    4 Lucas Moura – £3m

AFP or licensors The Brazilian has some doubters to prove wrong this season[/caption]

Moura arrived from PSG last season with a growing reputation as one of the most exciting attacking talents in Europe.

Spurs fans however are still yet to see the best of him, with the Brazilian having had his playing time limited since joined Pochettino’s side in January.

The 25-year-old was limited to just six Premier League appearances last season, in which he failed to play the full 90 minutes in any of them.

Moura picked up just 30 points in fantasy football last season, the same tally as backup goalkeeper Michel Vorm. Ouch!

We are backing the Brazilian to turn a few heads this season though and at £3m he represents a bargain that can’t be refused. Famous last words.

    5 Harry Kane – £8m

PA:Press Association The latest World Cup Golden Boot winner[/caption]

We thought that we would tease you by leaving Kane until the end.

There is little more that can be said about the 25-year-old that hasn’t already been said.

Kane has emerged as one of best strikers in the world in recent seasons, with his Golden Boot winning performance at this summer’s World Cup a reflection of that.

Spurs’ main man scored a mouthwatering 376 points in fantasy football last season, finishing behind only Mohamed Salah (412) as the highest points scorer in the game.

Kane, for the second season in a row, will be the most expensive player in Dream Team at £8m, however this season he shares the honour with Salah.

As arguably the best striker in the world, Kane is an investment that you just simply have to make this season.

What are the Dream Team rules?

Every single season the Premier League gets more intriguing – and playing Dream Team really is the perfect way to enhance your experience of it.

You’ll be assigned a total budget of £50m for each side you pick and you’ll be able pick a maximum of 10 free teams.

The Game Weeks run from Friday to Thursday, effectively meaning the new Game Week starts after the last Europa League games are completed.

Unai Emery was appointed as Arsenal's new manager yesterday and immediately thrust into his first press conferenceEmery and Arsenal will tackle the Europa League this seasonGetty

You get three transfers a month on the first Friday of every month so using them wisely is essential.

Every player on the game will be assigned a price at the start of the season which will then vary and fluctuate on a weekly basis dependent on their performances.

For example, last season we valued Mo Salah at £4m at the start of the season but the Egyptian King rocketed to over £11m by the end after his stunning goalscoring form.

  • Mourinho Identifies His Top Target For The Remainder Of The Transfer Window

Leicester City defender Harry Maguire tops Manchester United’s wishlist as the deadline day nears.

Manchester United have had a pretty poor transfer window this summer. The Red Devils were quick to open their account, as they sealed deals for Diogo Dalot and Fred. Lee Grant became their third signing, as Joel Pereira is anticipating a loan move to develop his skills.

But things have stalled at Old Trafford since then. Jose Mourinho has cut a frustrated figure, as United officials have failed to bring in his transfer targets. Spurs’ Toby Alderweireld was on the top of his wishlist, but negotiations haven’t moved further since he travelled to Russia.

Manchester United officials contacted Daniel Levy to inquire about his price, and were informed that they would have to pay above £60 million, which they weren’t ready to pay, as the defender would cost only £25 million next summer.

With the transfer deadline day arriving on August 9, Jose Mourinho has decided to focus on bringing in Harry Maguire to solve his centre-back issues. As per The Times, United are lining up a move for the Leicester City defender, and hope to bring him to Old Trafford before the season begins.

COMPARISON: Alderweireld vs Maguire – Who Should Man United Sign?

Jose Mourinho is in the process of revamping his defence. Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have been far from impressive over the past two seasons. Last summer’s recruit, Victor Lindelof, is finding it difficult to adjust to life in England.

The United gaffer also seemed to have banished Eric Bailly towards the end of last season, but things have improved  now, as Jose himself confirmed that the Ivorian will not be sold at any cost.

But the club still lacks the voice of a ‘general’ who can organize the defence efficiently. The Portuguese boss made attempts to bring in Leonardo Bonucci, but the Italian’s heart is set at a Juventus return.

Harry Maguire seems a good choice to lead United’s backline, considering his performances in Russia this summer. It will be interesting to see how quickly the Reds can seal this deal and integrate him to the squad before the season begins on 10th August.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to add a strong central defender, and he knows that in order to achieve the same, he needs to sell a player.

Manchester United did away with Daley Blind, and are now open to selling another player to fund the boost for their top targets.

The Mancunians have Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, and Marcos Rojo as pivotal central defenders. But now, the club would do away with one of them.

As per a report in the Independent, newly promoted Premier League side Wolves are interested in a move for Marcos Rojo, as they want to bolster their squad.

WATCH: Alderweireld vs Maguire – Who Should Manchester United Sign | Skills & Stats 2018

The Argentina international has been one of Jose’s trusted players, but injuries have taken a toll on the defender. The last two seasons have shown that, and under former manager Louis van Gaal too, he was out of action nursing injuries.

United could be open to this move, and if they can get a decent deal out of Rojo, then that in turn could help them in their pursuit of Toby Alderweireld or Harry Maguire.

Tottenham Hotspur are asking for at least £55m for the Belgian, and are refusing to budge in to United’s demands of a lower valuation.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery confirms Alex Iwobi will sign new five-year deal

Alex Iwobi will sign a new five-year deal with Arsenal, new Gunners boss Unai Emery has confirmed.

The Nigerian winger, 22, is to commit his future to the club after being linked with a £22.5million switch to Lazio.

On Wednesday SunSport were first to report news of Iwobi’s new deal, which will boost his wages up to £70,000-a-week.

The club began negotiations over a new contract in December as they looked to tie down a player who has been with them since the age of eight.

That was despite Iwobi having been handed a new five-year contract only 14 months previously, in October 2016.

Emery is said to be a huge fan of Iwobi, and he will likely play a prominent role at Arsenal this season with the club’s lack of depth out wide.

Speaking as Iwobi returned to the club after World Cup duty in Russia: “I have the information, he is near.

“First I want to work with every player, and they are coming (back to training).

“Mesut, Elneny and Iwobi are working with us – my first impression is very good.

“My information is he will sign to stay with us.”

Iwobi broke into the first team in the second half of the 2015/16 season, having come through the club’s Hale End academy setup.

He scored on his first two Premier League starts, against Everton and Watford, and has nine goals and 18 assists in 98 games for the Gunners.

Following the departures of fellow widemen Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the past 12 months, Iwobi now has a clearer path to the first team.

The Lagos-born forward has five goals in 21 Nigeria caps, having switched allegiances in 2015 after 11 youth appearances for England.

Elneny, Ozil and Iwobi joined up with their Arsenal teammates for the pre-season tour of SingaporeEPA

He is the latest player to renew with the club in the last few months, following Calum Chambers, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny.

Mesut Ozil also penned a new bumper £350,000-a-week deal in January.

But the club are still sweating over the future of Aaron Ramsey, who has entered his final 12 months under their control.

Ramsey confirmed on Wednesday he is yet to agree his future but Emery remains confident a deal will be struck.

It’s crunch time for Arsenal and Ramsey as negotiations over a new deal look set to reach a conclusionGetty - Contributor

Ramsey, 27, is among the favourites to take on the captaincy at Arsenal after Per Mertesacker’s retirement.

The Welshman said: “We’ve yet to come to an agreement. I still have a year left and it is a great feeling to play here.

“I’m looking forward to that. If something is to happen, we’ll see in the coming few weeks.”

Meanwhile, Emery said: “For me, I want him to stay with us, to work with us, to give the team the big performances with his quality. I think he is going to stay here with us.”

Mbappe reveals he played World Cup finals with a back injury

PARIS — France striker Kylian Mbappe has revealed he played the World Cup semifinals and final with a back injury he hid from his rivals.

In an interview with France Football magazine, Mbappe says he displaced three vertebrae in his back during the tournament in Russia three days before France defeated Belgium 1-0 in the semifinals. France won the World Cup with a 4-2 victory over Croatia in the final.

"It was essential not to alert our opponents, otherwise they could have taken advantage of that and targeted this sensitive area," said Mbappe, who scored four goals in the tournament including one in the final. "That’s the reason why with the staff and the players we kept it hidden, even for the final."

The 19-year-old Mbappe was one of the stars of the tournament and picked up the award for the best young player at the World Cup. He became the youngest player to score two goals in a World Cup game since Pele in 1958, and also became the first teenager since Pele to score in a World Cup final.

Mbappe, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain in the French league, also told the magazine he hopes he can be a contender for the Golden Ball award alongside his PSG teammate Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane

Manchester United continue to get linked with a centre-back this summer, and as per reports, three defenders have been lined up for the upcoming season.

The Mancunian giants have been linked with Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Leonardo Bonucci of AC Milan, besides Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.

Manager Jose Mourinho is believed to be intent on strengthening his side at the back, and knows he will have to cough out a massive sum to get either of the trio.

Reports claim that a deal for Maguire could come for around for at least £65 million. The Leicester City defender had impressed largely for England at the FIFA World Cup 2018.

    Dream Team FC
Renato Sanches has played his first game for Bayern since Swansea horror-season and actually looks quite decent

We’ve been really worried about Renato Sanches for the last couple of years.

The youngster was once considered one of the most promising wonderkids in the game, even winning the much-coveted Golden Boy award in 2016 – ahead of the likes of Marcus Rashford and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Playing a key role for Benfica in their 2015/16 title win before impressing during Portugal’s Euro 2016 triumph, it seemed this kid would fast-become one of the best players in the world.

    Reuters All to come[/caption]

SIGN UP NOW – It’s time to pick your fantasy football team for the new season

But a big-money move to Bayern that summer seemingly dislodged his development and was followed up by a dreadful loan spell with Swansea last season.

In fact, Sanches was so bad for the relegated Premier League side that he infamously passed to an advertising hoarding instead of one of his team-mates in a clash against Chelsea back in November.

He hardly played after that, with his confidence seemingly at an all-time low.

Fans and experts alike figured this could be the end for once shining light of Portuguese football.

This summer, he moved back to Bayern following his loan-spell and we all wondered where he’d end up.

But it seems the German giants aren’t ready to give up on him just yet.

    Reuters A season to forget[/caption]

Speaking about Sanches’ return to the club back in May, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: “Renato’s coming back.

“He’s had a couple of difficult years, which I believe are linked to him winning the Golden Boy award after the 2016 Euros. We were absolutely convinced of his qualities two years ago so we’re not going to give up on him now.”

And he’s not wrong, with the 20-year-old handed a place in the starting line-up for Bayern’s first pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.

    Reuters He’s back[/caption]

And you might want to whisper this, but playing in a somewhat second-string side, Sanches was easily the best player on the pitch.

It looks like his confidence is back, as he used his once-famed strength and agility to control the midfield; he didn’t even misplace any of passes.

Best of all, he scored a brilliant free-kick just after the hour-mark to put Bayern in the lead.

Now of course, this is pre-season and we all know that pre-season is utter bulls***.

But still, it’s universally pleasing to see him playing so well and with such confidence, considering how poor he’s looked recently.

    The fans are happy, too:

    Dream Team FC
Fantasy football: Who were the top 20 best players in the Premier League last season?

We’re still waiting patiently for the start of the Premier League season and all of the fantasy football fun that goes with it.

With the World Cup done and dusted, we’re stuck in football purgatory for the next couple of weeks until Manchester United get things rolling again in their opener against Leicester on August 10.

Rex Features Not long now, Jose[/caption]

Dream Team is back and better than ever ahead of the new Premier League season Completely free to play £400k jackpot up for grabs across the season PRE-REGISTER FOR DREAM TEAM 2018/19 HERE

In the meantime, make sure you pre-register for Dream Team right now, as the game will be launched very soon (and it might even be ready by the time you read this sentence).

So until then, we’re going to have a nice little stroll down memory lane and look back at the best fantasy football players of last season.

SPOILER ALERT: Mohamed Salah was pretty good.

    20 Dele Alli – 183

    REUTERS Worthy of the applause[/caption]

Scraping into our top 20 then is Spurs youngster Alli.

His season didn’t quite match his heroics the year before – when he netted 18 times for Spurs – as last season he only managed nine goals.

Still, not a bad return from someone who’s still so young.

    19 David Silva – 184 points

PA:Press Association Still as good as ever, even without the hair[/caption]

Let’s be honest; he was pretty rubbish at the World Cup, wasn’t he?

Luckily though, we enjoyed the very best of Silva last season as Man City dazzled their way to the Premier League title.

If you had him as part of your midfield, then nicely done.

    18 Son Heung-min – 192 points

Reuters Spurs fans love this guy[/caption]

We were always a little wary of sticking Son into our Dream Team line-up.

After all, isn’t he just the guy Spurs bring off the bench when Harry Kane’s had enough?

No, no he isn’t, and these days he’s one of Mauricio Pochettino’s key men and had an absolute blinder of a season last term.

    17 Willian – 193 points

AP:Associated Press Will he still be a Chelsea player next season?[/caption]

    We bloody love Willian.

Our favourite Chelsea midfielder was – at times – the Blues best player, especially towards the end of the season.

Who could forget his outstanding performance against Barcelona in the Champions League?

    16 Riyad Mahrez – 194 points

PA:Press Association Meet the new boy[/caption]

We always used to say that Mahrez was by-far the best player playing outside of the Premier League’s fabled top-six.

But we can’t say that any longer, following his big-money move from Leicester to Man City this summer.

Hopefully, his move won’t change his fantasy football efficiency, because he really was an excellent player to pick for most of last season (except around February, when he he was pulling a wobbly).

    15 Chris Smalling – 194 points

    Times Newspapers Ltd Shocked?[/caption]

Scoff all you want, but Smalling was a fantasy football gem last season.

Easily one of the best defenders you could pick, he was also the second-best Man United player on Dream Team.

    Madness, eh?

    14 Cesar Azpilicueta – 197 points

    REUTERS Reliable Dave[/caption]

‘Dave’, as he’s known around Chelsea, was a terrific fantasy football option once again last season.

And while it was a disappointing campaign for the club, Dream Team managers still got the best out of the Spanish defender.

    13 Marcos Alonso – 204 points

    PA:Empics Sport Lovely control[/caption]

Things could change for Alonso this season under new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

But for now, we’re remembering the good times of last season.

And last season he was once again an excellent player to have in defence, maximising his defensive and offensive abilities to bring home those Dream Team points.

    12 Leroy Sane – 207 points

Reuters How was your summer, Leroy?[/caption]

One of the stars of Man City’s title-winning campaign, but just don’t mention the World Cup to him, eh?

The young German got better and better as the season went on, and honestly we’re intrigued to see if he’ll manage to push on next season, especially with Mahrez in the mix.

But sadly, it wasn’t enough as Germany coach Joachim Loew failed to pick him for the World Cup.

    Probably for the best, really.

    11 Christian Eriksen – 220 points

    PA:Press Association Poch loves him[/caption]

Eriksen had a very good World Cup, leading Denmark to the round of 16 only to lose to eventual finalists Croatia.

    Not bad, eh?

He was very good for Spurs last season too, often going unnoticed amidst the brilliance of Kane ahead of him.

Still, fantasy football fans appreciated him, as he was a consistent source of points all season.

    10 Nicolas Otamendi – 222 points

My word, we love this guy here at Dream Team HQ.

For the second season running, Otamendi was by-far the best defender you could pick for fantasy football.

A succession of 7+ ratings, a handful of goals and five Star Man awards all rack up, which is why Man City’s big man at the back will probably be a popular pick on next season’s game.

Liverpool’s glorious attack was one of the main themes of last season.

And 1/3 of their wonderful trio of forwards was this guy.

With 10 goals in the Premier League last season and a new No. 10 shirt to enjoy this term, we think it’s safe to say the Senegalese star will enjoy himself this year.

    8 Romelu Lukaku – 254 points

Lukaku was the most-picked player on Dream Team throughout last season, mostly following the almighty buzz around his transfer to United from Everton this time last year.

But he proved to be a consistently decent player to have in your Dream Team, notching 16 goals in the Premier League and proving to be United’s main attacking outlet.

He could be even better next season, alongside Alexis Sanchez.

    7 Raheem Sterling – 265 points

By now, we all know that Sterling was easily one of England’s best players at the World Cup – despite failing to score.

And he was key to Man City’s title winning campaign last season, netting 18 times to silence plenty of critics.

    6 Sergio Aguero – 277 points

Getty - Contributor Who are the Premier League favourites? Louder now![/caption]

21 goals in 25 Premier League appearances in a decent return for someone we all feared would struggle to get into Man City’s team ahead of Gabriel Jesus last season.

But the young Brazilian’s problems with injury meant Aguero continued to spearhead City’s attack.

    5 Roberto Firmino – 280 points

    Reuters Smile[/caption]

A huge Dream Team favourite last season, especially in the opening weeks of the season when the Brazilian smile-merchant kept banging them in.

A huge part of the way Liverpool play and someone we genuinely think could challenge for the Golden Boot next season, we reckon Firmino will be a big player to pick in your Dream Team again next season.

    4 Eden Hazard – 281 points

    REUTERS Madrid-bound?[/caption]

He might not be around for much longer, with Real Madrid snooping around the Belgian winger.

And with good reason, as Hazard was one of the only shining lights of Chelsea’s otherwise bleak title-defence last season.

    3 Kevin De Bruyne – 284 points

    PA:Press Association Another assist? Go’on then[/caption]

The (new) Ginger Prince was the jewel in the crown of Man City’s brilliant season, chipping in with eight goals and top-ranking 16 assists.

But it wasn’t just that that made him so special for fantasy football managers, as he picked up 12 Star Man awards and the most 7+ ratings (42 in total, four more than Mo Salah) which is worth 126 points alone.

    2 Harry Kane – 376 points

PA:Press Association How many goals for Kane next season?[/caption]

    No surprises or arguments here.

Kane was once again the goal-scoring master of the Premier League and for a long time looked poised to take home the Golden Boot and the top points total for fantasy football.

But an end of season injury which saw him miss a couple of weeks meant Salah was able to overtake and break away from the England striker.

Still, his World Cup Golden Boot probably helped lessen the pain of missing out, we’re guessing.

    What else did you expect?

The Egyptian King was the talisman of Liverpool’s outstanding campaign last season, notching 32 goals in 36 league appearances to steal the Golden Boot away from Kane and help the Reds reach the Champions League final.

Undoubtedly the best player you could have on fantasy football last season, we want more of the same next season please, Mo.
