Will we see Man City goalkeeper Ederson score a goal before the end of the season?

Now that Man City have won the Premier League title, it’s all about breaking as many records as possible and having a bit of fun, isn’t it?

Pep Guardiola’s boys secured the league crown last weekend thanks to United’s surprise defeat to bottom-of-the-table West Brom.

But to be fair, it’s been pretty much on the cards since December.

But we’re not expecting City to take their foot off the gas, with Guardiola looking to break as many Premier League records as possible in their remaining games – including total points scored in a season, total wins in a season and the biggest points margin over the team in second-place (sorry, United fans), among others.

The handsome Catalan confirmed this at the weekend after their 5-0 win over Swansea, when he said: “Looking for records helps to keep the players focused.

“The league is won, now it’s the records. The numbers keep the players focused.”

But what about doing something a little bit more quirky, like giving Ederson a go at scoring from the penalty spot?

The Brazilian goalkeeper – who was signed from Benfica last summer to remedy City’s problems between the sticks – has been outstanding all season.

But he’s mostly caught the eye with his excellent ability on the ball, as he boasts a particularly powerful goal-kick and looks calm and collected with the ball at his feet.

Something Guardiola appreciates in a goalie.

But will he get himself on the scoresheet before the season’s end?

It’s something that’s genuinely on his mind.

Speaking to ESPN after their win on Sunday, he said: “I heard them [the City fans] chanting my name, asking me to take the penalty, but Gabriel went there.

“Unfortunately he missed it and Bernardo, fortunately, scored, but if the manager had asked me to go there, I would have definitely scored.

“I’m not sure if I would be able to do set-pieces, but I’m good at penalties, either using power or technique when I’m shooting.

“City have their regular penalty takers and we have good options, but if Pep asks me to take it, I’m there. “Hopefully it will happen, I’d like to score.”

City’s next game is away to West Ham on Sunday, followed by Huddersfield and Brighton (both at the Etihad) before their campaign ends at Southampton.

So their final four games are all up against sides that have shipped plenty of goals this season, but will Ederson be given a chance from the spot if the referee gives City a penalty?

We’d certainly love to see it happen and according to the traders at Sun Bets, you can get odds of 33/1 on Ederson to score a goal before the end of the season.
