Everyone’s talking about Leroy Sane’s disallowed goal against Liverpool and rightly so

    Take a breath.

Because Liverpool are through to the last four of the Champions League, having overcome Premier League rivals Man City in the quarter-final.

Pep Guardiola’s side scored after two minutes to give themselves hope, but failed to put away anymore of their numerous chances – allowing Liverpool to eventually get back into the game and score twice in the second-half.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man 👋

Mohamed Salah's composure is on another level! 👏

In the end, the result is probably fair but everyone involved with City will feel rather aggrieved by a certain refereeing decision in the dying moments of the first-half – when Leroy Sane had a goal bizarrely disallowed for offside.

    AP:Associated Press

On the 42nd minute, Liverpool’s Loris Karius punched clear Kevin de Bruye’s floated pass into the box, which fell to the unsuspecting feet of James Milner and bounced back towards the goal.

Sane was then on hand to tuck the ball into the net, but the referee blew his whistle and disallowed the goal, ruling that Sane was in an offside position at the time.

Fair enough, you say? Except that’s not exactly what happened, with the ball very clearly coming off of Milner – who’s not a City player (anymore) – so the goal definitely should have counted.

Karius comes off his line to punch the ball clear The ball pings to Milner And bounces clear towards the goal Sane gets into position And pokes the ball home

So on second inspection, it looks like a huge mistake by the referee and it’s probably what everyone will be talking about tomorrow morning.

We’re pleased to say that we’re not alone, with this lot having plenty to say about the moment on Twitter.

City have been superb. Looks a huge mistake giving Sane offside.

Don’t know how Sane can be offside when it’s clearly come off Harry Kane

How can Sane be offside when he

    A) wasn’t
    And

    B) it came off Milner ?

Sane goal wrongly ruled out for offside – the ball came off Milner #MCFC #LFC

Can't personally see why that Sane goal didn't stand, normally you look for intentional action in the case of a defender touching the ball, but in this case the ball was deflected forwards towards Milner's knee so Sane I think should be onside
