Sadio Mane scores glorious volley as Liverpool’s fantastic four send emphatic warning to their rivals

Who needs a decent defence when you can attack like this?

Liverpool sent a message to the rest of Europe with yet another thoroughly impressive attacking display.

The victims on this occasion were Spartak Moscow who succumbed to a 7-0 loss at Anfield in the last group game of this season’s Champions League campaign.

The visitors didn’t help themselves with some porous defending but the quartet of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were scintillating once again.

The floodgates opened after just four minutes when some clumsy defending allowed Coutinho to break the deadlock from the penalty spot.

The Brazilian midfielder doubled the lead and his tally when compatriot Firmino selflessly squared the ball in the box for an easy finish.

Liverpool’s No9 then got in on the act himself with an opportunistic outside-of-boot finish to make it 3-0 before 20 minutes.

Not wanting to miss out on all the fun, Mane scored the best of the lot soon after the restart.

The Senegalese speedster generated incredible power with a side-foot volley to convert James Milner’s inviting cross…

Three minutes later Coutinho bagged his hat-trick via a fortunate deflection although the interplay between him and Salah in the build-up was worthy of a goal.

The 25-year-old became the first Liverpool player to score a Champions League hat-trick since Yossi Benayoun in 2007.

Substitute Danny Sturridge turned provider for the sixth; the England forward impersonating Firmino with a selfless ball across the face of goal for Mane to tap home.

It looked as if top scorer Salah was going to be the only one of Jurgen Klopp’s fantastic four to miss out before the Egyptian’s composed finish in the 86th minute completed the set.

Liverpool’s vulnerable defence is well known but this attacking unit is capable of ripping any defence apart on their day.

Nobody will fancy drawing them in the round of 16, that’s for sure.
